The legal industry is changing—and the best legal service providers are driving it. As technology advances, firms are able to deliver better quality work, at lower cost. And clients have come to expect it. Newly qualified lawyers bring different strengths to the table, and with them, modern expectations of their workplace. To attract and retain both clients and talent, law firms, lawyers, and alternative legal service providers must adapt to the new world order.

Enter The Changing Lawyer

Litera Microsystems launched its publication, The Changing Lawyer in 2017 to provide a forum to discuss how those cultural shifts affect the legal market and how successful lawyers, law firms, and legal service providers can embrace change.

We’re proud of the recognition that The Changing Lawyer has received, from the dotCOMM  Award for Best eMagazine to the Hermes Creative Award for Best Interactive Media. The print and digital publication are regularly requested by law firms and legal professionals as a reference for reports on the changes taking place in the industry. The Changing Lawyer Awards are an opportunity to recognize and celebrate those individuals and organizations which have best embraced and championed change.

The Changing Lawyer Awards

Springing from the ideas and trends we’ve presented in The Changing Lawyer’s articles, the awards will recognize individuals and organizations that are creating new value for their clients—and themselves—by leveraging technology, creative service models, or transformative behavior.

We’re looking for the champions of change, and we need your help to find them. We encourage anyone with an interest in the subject to submit nominations—and self-nominations are welcome too. There are four categories for this year’s awards:

The Outstanding CIO of the Year Award

We’re looking for the CIO who has made the greatest impact on how his or her firm’s lawyers and legal professionals do business. Whether it’s by championing new programs or tools, driving increased efficiency through innovative processes, or creating entirely new ways of working.

The Outstanding Law Firm of the Year Award

This category is for law firms that have successfully reimagined the way they serve their clients. These firms have implemented core process changes, creative billing arrangements, or other innovations to transform the way they provide legal services and improve the value they provide to their clients.

The Outstanding Lawyer of the Year Award

For the individual attorney who has driven change within their firm. Again, we’re focusing on adaptations that have been implemented already and that have positive metrics or testimonials to back up their success. We’re identifying the lawyers who have taken initiative, identifying market trends and boldly figuring out how to use groundbreaking processes to get ahead of them.

Disruptor of the Year Award

Finally, the Disruptor of the Year Award is for an alternative legal service provider or legal tech startup that has managed to disrupt the broader legal profession through new processes, technology, or service delivery, whether it’s through innovative services offered directly to clients or redesigned management systems or technology.

We created The Changing Lawyer because we wanted to recognize those changes impacting the profession, and contribute to the conversation around it. The Changing Lawyer Awards give us an even more direct way to do that. Submit your nomination today and watch this space for an announcement of our first year’s winners!
